Causes of vitamin D deficiency

impairment of vitamin D metabolism. The same is true of some drugs designed for weight loss and lowering of cholesterol.

*Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency

Symptoms can include muscle pain, weak bones resulting in breaks and fractures, low energy levels resulting in fatigue, lowered immunity response, depression, mood swings, disorientation, confusion, seeing flashing blue lights, bad dreams, sleep irregularities and rickets in both children and adults.

*Why Vitamin D is Important

When you consider that the function of vitamin D is to maintain healthy blood levels of calcium and phosphorus and to aid in the assimilation of calcium, which helps to form and maintain strong bones, it only makes sense to do all we can to avoid vitamin D deficiency.

In addition to all this, recent studies suggest that vitamin D plays a role in preventing or helping control osteoporosis, high blood pressure, cancer, psoriasis, diabetes and several autoimmune diseases.

Incorporating fish and milk that is vitamin D fortified and getting outside for a few minutes each day is a small price to pay for the benefits we'll reap in better health and well-being.
