How to use the Son of Citation Machine

by Michelle Martini

Created on: July 31, 2008

Son of Citation Machine is an online citation maker. The citation machine was designed to bring ease to the chore of citation writing. Instead of hand writing or typing a citation, the citation machine formats the information into the citation style of your choice: MLA, APA, Turabian, or Chicago style.

WHY CITE INFORMATION
It is important to cite sources when writing an academic paper, informative article, or even a journal reflecting on the ideas of others. This online citation machine was created in an effort to "respect other people's intellectual properties." Citations make up a bibliography which follows an essay, book, journal, or resource in order to both provide further resources and to give credit to informing ideas.

TO BEGIN
Son of Citation Machine can only be used online. Its web address is http://citationmachine.net/. The top left of the page lists the style options. Choose the style in which you would like your citations to appear.

IS IT FREE?
Yes! There is no limit to how many citations you can make using their automated web form.

TYPES OF CITATIONS
The source that is being cited must fall into one of these categories:

*PRINT
Book - One or More Authors
Encyclopedia or other reference work
Journal Article - One or More Authors
Magazine Article - One or More Authors
*NON-PRINT
Internet Journal or Magazine Article - One or More Authors
Online Encyclopedia (Not defined in MLA Handbook)

Web Document

TO CITE:
A web form is used to collect the required information. Each piece of information should be thorough and carefully checked for correct spelling. Clicking the submission button will transform your data into a formatted citation. The citation can there be copied and pasted into a Word document, blog, or email with very little formatting required. The web form makes citing quick and painless!
