A new generation of educational opportunities

fewer positive challenges.

With all of the new technology, and interactive media that is now working its way into the schools, one would think students would be excited and eager to learn. This is not the trend at all. This tends to encourage the trend to not interact with each other. Social interaction has become a rare event in many schools today.

While the opportunities have never been better, with classes designed to prepare students for the future, many students are just not getting it. The stress that is being placed more and more on the teachers to fix the problems at any cost is also contributing to the over all loss of interest by the students. Teachers are indeed overworked, and the demands on them to do many tasks that they perceive to be unsuccessful and worthless is driving many of them to find new careers. Discipline is placed on the teachers in such a way that if they address it they will not have time to teach. The problem is, if they don't follow the steps of discipline nothing is done, and the teachers lose valuable time because of disruptions in the classroom.

It is amazing to see so much wonderful technology and learning material available, only to go to waste because of discipline and motivational issues. Requirements to be politically correct, and to make every attempt to not offend students or parents, and the fear of being sued from all directions, seems to have moved education into a second priority.

With each year comes new challenges and trials. With all the great opportunities that are provided for students today, there is indeed progress being made. We cannot overlook any students, of course, however the majority of the money should go to the majority of the students. The majority of the students are doing very well, but are hindered because attention is given to problems rather than the positives.
