Website reviews: Craigslist.com

Upon stumbling past Craigslist.com a few years ago, I haphazardly bookmarked the site for later review. When I had a little bit of time to spare, I clicked back through their site. It is a fairly simple idea, with an even simpler execution. The main focus of Craigslist is to provide internet user's with a domain in which they can list their personal ads/classifieds without paying fees.

We have a newspaper very similar to Craigslist which is published throughout North Carolina and South Carolina called the IWANNA paper. Which provides a similar service as Craigslist; however, it is in print form and it doesn't reach nearly the same amount of viewers as Craigslist.

What does Craigslist have listed on their site? That's a really simple question to answer. They currently have just about anything you could ever think of listed on their site. They have such a huge user base, and many user's who find Craigslist to be their first place to go when looking for a used item, or even trying to sale an item. Personally, I have never done anything more than view the listings, or even email another user about their listing. But I assume that dealing through sales or trades via Craigslist is very similar to an eBay transaction in that the entire transaction is completed through the seller and buyers, with little to no interaction on Craigslist's behalf. Is this a good thing? In my opinion, yes. Think about it, ultimately anytime you deal with end users/sellers online, it is a gamble. Hopefully, the majority of the time the transaction goes smooth. Occasionally, it may go bumpy. And sometimes it could even go horribly wrong. However, it is the responsibility of the buyer and seller to communicate to help further the growth of the community through their interactions. This builds confidence in buyer/seller relationships, and helps drive people back to the site for return business.

The listings on Craigslist literally number in the thousands. If you are interested in buying a vintage guitar, you may very well find your desired item on Craigslist. And a growing section of their site is the 'Jobs' section. More and more area employers are reaping the benefits of added exposure for their job listings via Craigslist. Why? Well, the listings are free, and therefore the employer pays nothing in exchange for potentially finding a great employee. The second, local job listings in your area may not otherwise have international exposure as they do on Craigslist. Which means that there is a wider range of applicants to assist the employer's in picking the right candidates.

If you're looking to hook up with a date or an old friend, you can post a classified on Craigslist. What about booking a band for the weekend blast party you are planning? Drop by Craigslist. Or even if your just looking to post a message on their message boards and chat with some friends, why not drop by Craigslist? No doubt, that Craigslist will continue to thrive and grow as time goes on, because we all like to find what we want quickly and easily. And if you're trying to clean out the basement you may not necessarily want to pay listing fees for everything on sites like eBay. When you can list for free on Craigslist.

Craigslist has something for just about anyone.
