Insecurities
Hidden behind the veil of self deceit
It plots and schemes my defeat
Moving silently through the shadows of my thoughts
Stopping only to pause and plant that seed of doubt
Feeding on my insatiable need to believe
That my reflection isn't simply an apparition
A fraction of my soul encased within a sullen frame
Absent is the flame that lights my passion
Gone is the teasing light that frequents my eyes
All that is left is a single tear
One that holds my fears
Pains that cannot be understood
Fears that cannot be explained
The seeds have become weeds
Their thorns thriving on my unspoken doubts
Choking my essence with their barbs
Cloaking myself for protection
For fear of rejection
Retreating inward
Until all that shows is a glimmer of the surface
A dim light that used to shine with purpose
Disguised from myself
Prepared to spend my life on a shelf
Then I face the mirror once again
I see a glimpse of me within
Recognition sparks that flame
I can see myself; place face to name
I refuse to be trapped in that briar patch
With barbs of insecurities piercing my flesh
Head held high I begin pulling weeds
I'm starting my garden fresh
