I was somewhat reluctant to see this movie, not being a big Brad Pitt fan (other than in Oceans movies), and only somewhat familiar with Angelina Jolie. However, the more I watched it, the more fun I had, until I ended up bringing the DVD home when it came out for the family to watch. There are some scenes that are purely fun and hysterical.
I never would have thought of the two of them together, but it works. She is gorgeous (as always makes me wonder what she looks like when she's in the middle of taking care of all those children at home with Brad and all the little housekeepers and nannies...or does she have nannies?)and he looks cutesy and comes across as charming enough.
His side kick (Vince Vaughn)is typically obnoxious, but then, I don't think I've seen him play a good role yet okay, maybe Fred Claus. The best scene he had was when he yelled at his mother that they were under high alert and he could have just killed her...please!
Everyone else is kind of non-essential; their co-workers, their bosses, the neighbors. The best illustration of this is the neighbors party where it shows their interaction with everyone in the neighborhood, shows how shallow and empty their lives really are, (she's more worried about fighting over curtains more than having a child - let alone how to hold one)how little they communicate with anyone (especially each other) and how little anyone knows the real them. It really was a short amount of time before their little house of cards would have come falling down around their ears anyway.
One of our favorite parts is when the neighbor comes over when they have just begun their little showdown and are trying to kill each other and asks if they are okay. He tells them they are remodeling...but the very best part is on the freeway.
Here they are, driving along in their Christian neighbor's minivan, in their underwear, and having a discussion about all the lies they've told to each other over the years. Her real parents hadn't even come to the wedding, she'd hired someone; and he admits he'd been married once before. Like this should all be a big surprise? They should have known, with the type of jobs and careers they had chosen, and who they worked for. It was kind of a saw it coming' movies, but it was fun to see how they resolved everything.
I like the scene in the hallway after they've blasted the heck out of the house trying to kill each other and they are comparing times when they should have seen each other as suspicious in regards to their activities.
There was great interaction between the two of them, plenty of chemistry and I really got a sense that the two of them really could do a little acting and not just be eye candy to the opposite sex. Almost makes you wonder if this type of thing really exists, and how people could possibly live like that. Would the money really be worth it? When would the cynicism and doubt color everything in your life?
Anyway, well done. I would recommend anyone wanting to have a movie night, rent this one. It's almost romantic...definitely action.

This is the film that sparked off all those rumours about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, were they an item were they not.

Mr & Mrs Smith was fun to watch. And as much fun as it was, I observed a lesson to be learnt here on communication.
