Snacking during the holidays can be a dangerous way to add extra calories without even realizing it. If snacking during meal preparation on the foods your cooking for holiday meals, you can add enough extra calories they may just add up to a small meal. So don't snack during meal preparation. If you decide you need something try to snack on, a low calorie snack as in raw vegetables, sugar free jello or pudding, but remember these are low calorie and not calorie free!
As you complete dishes that may need refrigerated before your holiday meal, one suggestion might be place these dishes towards the back of the refrigerator on a lower shelf and place fruits or vegetables in front of those dishes that will be tempting instead of the prepared dish.
Another tip to try is continuing to eat regular meals. Don't skip meals so you can have those extra calories during your holiday meal. All this will accomplish is being hungry all day and make you more than likely to consume more calories in one single meal than if you would have had two or three regular meals.
Overeating during the holidays is nothing uncommon. Most are guilty of it at one time or another. We tend to eat more when eating with others because we socialize at the table and don't focus on what we are eating. An easy suggestion might be to put down your silverware while talking and then pick it back up when you can focus on what you eating.
Besides not eating our regular meals during the holiday seasons, we often find ourselves changing our normal routines. Plans change, schedules get jumbled, and family or friends occupy our thoughts. In return causing us to put several things on hold. One of these things might be your exercise routine. Do you put off exercise during the holiday, because you just can't seem to fit it in with everything else going on?
Most of the time when we decide to skip these regular exercise routines, we already know it is a bad idea to do. The extra holiday stress of the holiday and extra family and food in the house will lead to a sure way to gain a few pounds if you decide to not continue with your exercise routine.
A helpful suggestion here might be; get friends or family involved in your exercise. Get them to take a walk and talk. This will solve a few things, getting away from the food you have been preparing, and not skipping your exercise during the holiday. Also, while walking everyone start taking note of ideals for the next holiday parties. Holiday parties are great!
Summer holidays are known for cookouts. Be the one who brings ice. All that work carrying the ice, loading and refilling coolers, will burn calories and plus snacking on ice is ZERO calories. During fall holidays, don't forget to add a salad or low calorie dessert. With winter holidays, putting up decorations can burn calories and add some volunteer time during this season to help out around your community. Spring holidays will add working in a new garden and some newly bloomed flowers to your table for your holiday decorations. So get busy and start planning your next holiday party.
