Power can be defined as many things. If we look at the power of words, then we see the ability to change the atmosphere, situation, or a person's life by a single word. Although, many would disagree, words carry influence and power.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
Psalms 19:14 (NKJV)
Words can speak life or death to a situation or a person.
Have you ever considered the words you speak?
Are they life or death? Are your words filled with faith or fear? We can change our words and see change in our lives.
Consider these words:
I am getting sick
My head is killing me
I am broke
I will never do this or have that
I can't
I will never marry
I will not have children
Everyone in my family had ______ disease and I will too
I am so tired
Those are only a few examples of what we say, I'm sure you can think of others. Let's change what we speak about others and ourselves. Have you ever noticed after you speak those things it usually manifest, or you find it to be so. You will never rise above, if all you speak is negative. We must see ourselves above and not beneath. If you will begin to speak the word, the Lord will respond from heaven. He watches over his word to perform it, and his word will not return void.
Positive speaking can overturn negative thinking. Once you hear something it begins to take root, and you can either receive what you are hearing or discard it. I know in my life if I hear something or read it long enough, I start to believe it. Whatever is planted reproduces a harvest. Consider children who are told they will never amount to anything, then as adults they take that role in society. Now, consider on the other hand, a child who was told you could be or do anything in the world- this child has reached for the stars and achievement much in life. Why? The power of words. Words of encouragement can bring hope years after they were planted.
Words that have been thrown out that have brought pain or criticism can never be taken back. We must choose to think before we speak. So many times out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Whatever is in our hearts must come out. Whether good or bad there is a need to release the overflow from out heart. The need to release inner pain should never wound another soul. I realize some people enjoy seeing others suffer, but I choose to bless those who curse me. I have had to bless those who have wrongfully used me. Although I have the power to choose, I speak life. I choose to speak on things that are lovely, and of a good report. I spent to many years hearing negative, thinking on it, and then becoming all that I was told. Today I live free from the oppression of wrong wrongs. What we say about ourselves is even stronger than what other might say. I challenge you to begin to speak positive, and faith filled words. Watch your mindset and you life change for good. The tongue is a small member of our bodies, but the power it has can change destiny!
