Considerations in choosing a small-sized vs. a mega-church

Considering a church that that will increase spiritual growth and closeness to God is vitally important. This topic is very close to my heart. I am in between a cross road where I am part of a very small church and I believe that God is telling me to move on.

This is just my opinion, but I believe that small churches can create burn out. You find yourself needing to constantly be there and lead. If you are absent on a Sunday, people know about it. You will find yourself as the Sunday school teacher, the tea lady, the one who welcomes people, the intercessor and before you know it, you are going to church not for God but for all the things that you must do in order to keep it running smoothly.

Large churches will give you the ability to grow with little or less pressure. You can just get to know God. The downside is that you might not be held accountable. You might not be in the forefront. You might not pioneer the way for increase as increase will already be there. The question you have to ask yourself is do I want to be involved one hundred percent in church activity? The more people that are there, the more you can choose with your heart what you want to get yourself involved in without feeling forced.

It is all about balance. You have to follow your inner umpire and what God is telling you to do. People will tell you what they think should be done but God is the ultimate one that you should follow.

Small churches and mega churches are both great. It really depends on what God wants you to do. As long as you don't find yourself in a rut of just going to church for the sake of it then you will be fine the passion for God is more important than deciding what church you are going to. It is not a church thing, it is a God thing.

Mega churches will show you the bigness of God. Small churches will show you God's love through intimacy with other believers. Both churches have positive aspects and negative aspects. The most important thing is to stay rooted in God and the bible. As long as you can talk to God, sing to God and live for God then that should be the defining line. God will lead you to where you need to be. What ever you decide, make sure you are in a place where you can grow, learn and enjoy.

God is not complicated. His burden is light. There should be joy in serving God. So find that place where you and God can meet where ever that might be.
