Healthy holiday eating strategies

How many holiday parties are you going to attend this season? Let me guess, the neighborhood party, your work party, your significant other's work party, your parents... That's a lot of over eating (assuming they're mostly dinner parties). Thank God you have such great self-control. Yeah right.

Holiday eating, it's a situation we confront every year. Everyone is going to tell you that their secret to staying fit, is not to eat this, and eat less of that. Well guess what? I totally disagree! I say, eat more, eat more! Think about it, how are you supposed to eat when you're too full? How are you supposed to eat, when you can't cram in another bite? You can't, can you?

First of all, you should know, I am not a doctor or health specialist, and I don't eat like this all the time. I do, however, happen to know a lot about food and nutrition and I'm a size 4. Oh, and for the record, I hate exercise and I rarely do it!

Okay, listen up. On the day of your little holiday festivities wake up and make yourself breakfast. Start your day off with oatmeal. Get the real stuff; not flavored. It takes about a minute and thirty seconds to make in the microwave. Oats are full of fiber. Fiber helps break down food and boosts your digestive system. If you want to want to add flavor add honey (also high in fiber) and add raisins, cinnamon, apple (fiber, fiber, fiber)not sugar. You're going to get enough sugar later that night at your party.

Throughout the day, whether you're hungry or not eat carrots and celery. Carrots require a lot of chewing (which burns calories) and celery has less calories than it takes to eat them. Totally skip the ranch dressing, don't even think about it. If you have nuts around you can eat those, but not so many salted ones because you'll retain water! As a general rule drink water or other non-sugared drinks. Coffee is okay.

For a lunch, eat a taco or burrito (preferably a burrito). Make sure it's a real restaurant and not some drive-thru place. Any taco/or burrito you eat will pretty much be healthy. Chicken, beef or fish are high in protein and niacin, plus fish has omegas. Ask them to go extra on the veggies. Skip the beans or the rice- but not both, the sour cream and the chips. Eat spicy salsa by the spoonful as peppers help boost your metabolism. If you can't get to a burrito then get a sandwich with whole wheat bread and skip the mayo. You may, add a jalapeno and avocado if you want. To drink, get some unsweetened tea.

As you're getting dressed and
