Tuptim Thai
fresh flowers rest in simple vases upon each table
even on cold october days
long-stemmed marigolds bob cheerful orange
white and yellow daisies waft fresh-scent green
absent shakers for pepper or salt, absent the bottles of soy
absent the demure carnation pinks and laden rose reds
china white porcelain rimmed in gold, concentric on linen
nestled and arranged with faith in the appreciation of a stranger
even when the stranger is me
