Testimonies: Best and worst bosses

known as the boss from Hell. Gina knew nothing about the medical field or that of transcription. She had been a counselor for Nutri-Systems and felt she was more than adequately trained to assume responsibility for the more than 50 off site transcriptionists. Unfortunately, her management style or lack thereof, left much to be desired. She made my first bullying boss seem tame and conservative. She was hostile, condescending, bullying, rude, and oftentimes just right out mean. She was/is the consummate backstabber. Throughout my ten year tenure at this organization Gina has tried to leverage her way to the top. Unfortunately, this never occurred and, to my knowledge, will never occur, so she did the next best thing she built herself a basement, placing several lower level management people between herself and her transcriptionists. These people are all clones of Gina, trying to claw their way to the top using the transcription staff as their ammunition. So after 10 years with this company, never having had a real review (at least none ever signed by me), and the obligatory 5% raise which everyone in the company receives on a yearly basis I now had 3 people between myself and Gina. I began to receive e-mails describing my work as being unacceptable, substandard, and needing constant review. To my knowledge my work had always been exemplary this being written in my Christmas card and bonus given by the CEO of the company each year and each card on a personal level. I did save these cards and when I went to HR to see if something could be done, the answer I received was "getting in line if you sue." Apparently Gina's idea was to clean house and she was using her new management staff to do this for her. With no more fight in me, having been the recipient of her poor managerial style for 10 years, I gave up the good fight and left of my own accord. Will I sue them well who knows. What I hope for is that the company is sold and she is removed from her position of assumed power, with her having to work for someone exactly like herself. They say what goes around, comes around and in this case I sincerely hope this to be the case. As for me, I am searching again for that elusive opportunity where I can utilize my own management style and, perhaps, make another company a better place to work for everyone concerned.
