Testimonies: Best and worst bosses

correct their errors or the option to leave of their own accord. I held training sessions and rewarded each and every employee who was deserving of such rewards. I kept the doctors at bay and was the intermediary as that is what I felt I was hired to accomplish. I must say that in my 5 years in this position only 1 employee left our employ and that was due to a change in her marital situation. She still kept in touch with the office long after she left our employ.

Five years into this position I was forced to leave because of changes in my own family situation. My son was starting kindergarten and I wanted to be there for him when he got on the bus and when he got home and off the bus. I wanted to be an integral part of his school and home life. It was then that I secured employment as a telecommuting medical transcriptionist. My first employer was "different" so to speak. She was rude, condescending, bullying, and demanding, never offering praise, but always there with a threat of termination or a bounced pay check. I did learn the business from her and used her as a stepping stone to move to another company.

The next company I worked for was better than the first with the owners being 2 women. They had both been stay at home mothers looking for gainful employment, stumbling upon medical transcription as a viable alternative. They managed to grow their company into a large corporation employing about 100 transcriptionists due the acquisition of a very large teaching hospital account. They trained me on this account and were quite lenient and accommodating towards me when I first started until I felt comfortable on this account. The salary was less than my first company but the benefit of understanding, kind employers who were always willing to lend a hand, ear or whatever else needed was most beneficial. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. One of the women brought her husband into the business and before you knew it, they had lost the account I was working on and I was forced to seek new employment.

Still staying within the medical transcription realm I secured employment through a local Urgent Care Organization with a number of stand alone clinics throughout this state and MD. My first boss (the person who hired me) was a gem. She was organized, professional and understanding of the needs of a working mom. Unfortunately, she was forced from her position by a person whom she had brought in to assist her. This new person became my boss better
