Poetry: Catching a cold

by Cheryl Burger

Created on: July 29, 2008

Oh my, your head fills up, your chest is full
and in your hanky you cough your drool.
The orbits of your eyes are sore
and you feel you never felt like this before.
But if you have a common cold
it can take you from being brave and bold,
to some weepy, old, decrepit soul.
Your only wish is to buy the remedy
a lemon toddy, or just some hot tea!
Oh take the whiskey, it won't kill,
but when you do,... don't take any pills.
The morning after your head may ache
but what's the difference,
you feel like the devil anyway.
There are some comforts with the cold,
just in knowing you can stay in bed
for some rest on your favorite pillow.
To snuggle up in granny's quilt and read
a novel or something about.. this disease.
Just stay warm and rest a lot
because when you are well,
you will have much to catch up on.
So stay out of drafts, and when you feel ill,
your nose is itchy, and starts to run,
and you feel chills, catch up to it,
and start the fluids.
There is no cure for this malady,
but chicken soup is praised,
....as Mom's super home remedy!
