Travel experiences: Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Rio De Janeiro- the city of adventure, colorful carnivals, historical places and natural beauty! We had only one day in this unique city! What a pity! What can we do and see for one day?! So many things for seeing and not time enough to do this. Almost nothing or enough to came here back at any time.

We stated with visiting the Maracana Stadium because this was very important for the men in our group. One of the world`s largest stadiums was built in 1950 because of the IV World Cup of football. The stadium is used even for mega-shows and it has a capacity with more than 150 000 people. The name of the stadium for the locals and later on for all people came from the small river that flows nearby. The stadium is in a giant oval shape. Probably it will be used for football, volleyball and water-polo in the 1212Olumpic Summer games.

Very soon we were in front of the Guanaraba Palace Hotel which is situated in the Rio-Es business district in the center of Rio. This hotel could be easily reached from any point in the city. The hotel is very huge and it is 10 miles away from Rio De Jameiro International Airport. The guests can relax here in a very comfortable and stylish atmosphere. Actually, this is not only a hotel but also a business center in the central part of Rio. We took some pictures in front of the hotel and followed our route.

Our next stop was the Palacio Tiradentes. This palace built in an eclectic style with tall Greek columns and octagonal glass dome (1926) represents through its large sculptures on the ground floor Order and Progress. The floor is in French mosaic. Paintings that I like very much are with nationalistic themes. The stained glass artwork is beautiful and the furnishings are in Brazilian woods. In one word:a must-see (in the city).

The next step was Santa Terezia which is located on the top of a hill with the same name. The area is famous because of the fact that it is a favorite spot for artists and tourists. we took the Santa Terezia tram which is very old and is mainly a popular attraction among the tourists. Being in a tram we had the opportunity to cross the old aqueduct ( today used as a bridge) and pretty streets were in front of us. We also appreciated beautiful views of the city downhill.

There are the two world`s largest forests inside the urban area in Rio De Janeiro. the first is the White Stone State Park which is almost connected with the second one-the Tijuca Forest. So we went to Tijuca National Park where the Tjuca Forest is the only forest in the world which is located right in the middle of the city. This is an amazing place with flora and fauna diversity. Divided into three parts it can be very easily accessed. I was very impressed by the Cascatinha waterfall( near the entrance)which I found very beautiful. We walked for two hours and enjoyed the peaceful and quiet atmosphere. On our way we saw a few small lakes, took some pictures, ate burgers in one restaurant on the way and promised ourselves that next year we will come here back to visit more things.
