Travel experiences: Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Day 1
At last we are in Rio De Janeiro, one of the marvelous cities I have ever visited! The travel from the airport to the city was not a great pleasure for me.I have read much about this wonderful city which is a spectacular natural setting but nothing of my reading can be compared to the reality that was in front of me. Nothing of the seen in the films can be the answer of my expectations from Rio!

I was not patient enough to go to one of its famous beaches but first of all there was a plan and according to it we had to go to do some sight-seeings. The first thing that impressed me very much was the giant statue of Jesus known as Christ the Redeemer on the top of the Corcovado mountain. We saw the statue from a big distance but it was so huge that impressed me at first sight.

But we had to go to our hotel and after that to visit the Rio De Janeiro Cathedral or known as the Metropolitan Cathedral which is dedicated to Saint Sebastian-the patron saint of the city. The cathedral is situated in the center. First I did not realized that I was in front of the cathedral. It is conical in shape with four rectilinear beautiful stained windows. Where we were inside the light came through the windows thus by making the atmosphere peaceful and strange. I have never been in such a cathedral.

In every city or town I have ever been at least to one garden or park. In Rio I also wanted to visit the Botanical Garden or how they call it Jardim Botanoco do Rio De Janeiro. This is one of the greatest tropical botanical gardens in the world I think. The garden is in the list of the Brazilian Historical Heritage and considered by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. I liked the big beautiful trees-the royal palms and the orchids which were more than 700 in different shapes, colors and size. There were many statues, sculptures and fountains. we spent a really nice time near the natural beauties in the garden. If I have the opportunity O will go there back one day again. From the Botanical Garden one can take a good pictures of the Statue of Christ and Corcovado.

We decided to eat out this evening and the suggestion was to start the evening with a meal in Copacabana. We took a taxi and drove to Copacabana. During the driving the driver told us that lots of night clubs attract the tourists every night. He explained that Baronetti and Catwalk are some of the best known because they are frequently visited by celebrities like Naomi Cambell, Mick Jagger and others. He also showed us the Copacabana Palace Hotel and told us that the hotel plays and had played an important role in city`s life. I have read that the hotel is very old and Edith Piaf, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Diana were guests at this hotel.

So, we found a small restaurant with a pretty atmosphere where we enjoyed the Brazilian cuisine and drank "caopirinha" which I found very delicious. This is a drink made from limes, cachaca, sugar and ice. After that we took a walk on the beach which was so beautiful. In the late evening we went by taxi to our hotel tired of the day to rest for some hours and on the other day to follow our program in the beautiful Rio De Janeiro...
