If you really want to live green, you should just lay down and stop breathing. That would really help. However, for most of us, that is not an alternative, and thus we should attempt to find other things. I have a few rules I try to live by, and they do really help make my quality of life better, not worse. I do regulate myself to some degree, but I think that placing demands on myself makes me a happier person.
One thing I think is easy for everyone to do is to keep a lot of plants at home. This is obviously easy, but it is also good for the environment, as plants convert CO2 to O2. It makes your climate at home better, and research has found that buying a plant makes you happy for a week. Buy one every week and you're happy for a long time!
Another thing I do is recycle. For a lot of people this might seem time consuming and boring, but it has actually been good for me. I sort almost all food wrapping and recycle both plastic and paper wrapping. I've reduced the amount of trash I throw to about 30% this way, the rest I recycle. You should look into this.
I have found a good bookstore down the street where used books are sold. When I buy fiction, I buy it there, and I get cheaper books, and it is also has the benefit that it is good for the environment. This is, of course, because it means that books are used more times. The same way, borrowing or lending from the library is essentially better than buying books. In addition, you can actually make a living from buying used books cheap and selling them online. Shipping is - of course - not entirely green.
Driving is of course a major source of pollution. A lot of the time, I bring my used books on a bus, and read while going wherever I am going. This is better than driving, which I try to limit. Of course driving is necessary in today's society, and riding the bus should not be done if it means a lot of time is lost. When it's comfortable, takes about the same time as driving would, however, it should be considered.
The amount of meat eaten is one thing a lot of people should reduce. It is unhealthy to eat too much meat, and it is also responsible for high pollution. Eating pasta is an alternative, and there are several other alternatives that are good.
These are a few tips that are easy to do, but there are a lot more good tips around the web. Search for specific things you can do, and you will find a lot of information.
