California Getaways: Mendocino County
Tucked away in northern California, right on Hwy 1 you will find beautiful Mendocino. Enjoy a soothing foggy afternoon as you watch the grey whales migrate south. Watch the fire flicker in a fireplace or a gigantic bonfire right on the beach. Snuggle close to a loved one as the salty breeze runs through your sweatshirt.
Mendocino has a lot to offer for the whole family, but if couples paradise is what you're looking for then brace yourself! There may not be another place in California quite as romantic as Mendocino County.
How to get there:
This is a remote getaway and you may get there by yacht, boat, driving or municipal airport.
What to do?
Go for a Dive! Go abalone diving at Jug Handle Beach.
Take a hike! Find the breathtaking waterfall at Russian Gulch.
Jump off a cliff! Rock climbing/repelling off the many cliffs.
Go for a Ride! Rent a horse and enjoy a day of horse riding on the beach at Mc.Kerricher State Park.
Find a starfish! Find a crab! Jump from ecosystem to ecosystem at Mc.Kerricher State Park.
Visit art galleries in Historic Mendocino town. It's free to walk around and see a plethora of glass art, oil paintings, or other media.
Check out the shopping! Many boutiques and gift shops right in historic Mendocino and Fort Bragg.
Enjoy the restaurants! The best sea food ever is right in Noyo Harbor not to mention all that great California wine.
Like Cookies? Like Chocolate? Papa John's, Mendocino Cookie Co., Mendocino Chocolate Co have the most delectable truffles and sweets you can concoct in your brain!
The possibilities for things to do and see are endless. Don't forget to bring your camera as you will want to capture every single second.
Lodging:
Don't worry, once you get there you will find a million and one places to stay with coastal access. Personal Favorites include: Blackberry Inn, Seashore Cottages, and Colombi's.
Blackberry Inn: has so much character and a pretty view. Every room is designed like an old west movie.
Seashore Cottages: Get your own cottage with a fireplace for reasonable rates.
Colombi's: very inexpensive: two rooms, a parking space and of course a rest room. Laundry matt on site, just a walk from the beach.
What to Wear:
Bring: your wetsuit (for diving), a couple of sweatshirts, your peacoat, some jeans you can get sandy, something nice for a restaurant, some flip flops, and something you can walk in.
Enjoy Cali Life!
