One very unique feature of Helium is the fact the members are ranked using a special system of stars for both writing and rating articles. In my view, it is a democratic and just system which ensures that quality quickly rises to the top and is recognized.
So, how does one get writing stars on Helium? More to the point, is yours truly qualified to write on this topic? Well, no immodesty implied, but I think the answer to the second question is a confident. "Yes".
I have been a Helium member for over nine months now. In that time, I have managed to write over 60 articles and I have earned two writing starts for my efforts.
Based on my experience and observations, I think it is possible to earn writing stars on Helium using the points articulated below as a guide.
1.Write from the heart:
There is no point writing a Helium article by just going through the motions. Choose a topic that is close to your heart and give it your best shot.
2.Write clearly:
Even if you are a professor of English, you should not advertise your literary sophistication in your Helium articles. Write clearly and make your articles informative. This is what is required on Helium.
3.Watch your Grammar:
This may seem like an unnecessary thing to say to practicing writers but, it has to be said. If your articles are not properly punctuated, if your articles contain spelling errors and clumsy syntax, you cannot expect to have high ratings on Helium. So edit and re-edit before you click the publish button on the Helium write screen.
4.Concentrate on quality:
Your aim as a writer should be quality articles and not a large quantity of inferior
articles. Remember that your articles reflect your competence as a writer so aim for the highest quality always. Quality will always stand the test of time.
5.Avoid writing on unfamiliar topics:
These are topics in which you may not just have enough information. So don't write on such topics. Choose the topics you can handle competently and write on them to the best of your ability.
6.Keep it simple:
Remember that you are writing for an internet readership. So, keep your articles simple and easy to read. Your articles must contain the basics for a start. These are introduction, body and conclusion. Organize your points in the right sequential order and better still, use lists or asterisks to indicate your points clearly to the reading public.
7.Don't write for money:
Did I just see a smile if bemusement of your face? Well, on a serious note, we all know that writers are not really materialistic people. So, if you are writing for helium, your purpose should be altruism and not materialism. But if you do make money from your writing, accept it as your due. The point here is that if you write for purely financial reasons, it may affect the quality of your articles.
These are the parameters that I have used in my own articles and they have done me a world of good. I hope you apply these tips and I hope you get a lot of writing stars too.
Writing for Helium is fun. Enjoy it!
