Cutting your Costs in California
Everyone has money problems. What makes Californians so special? Well, the fact that we're Californians for starters. Seriously though, cost of living is a lot more expensive here than in many parts of the United States. We have expensive property taxes, expensive renting. We have more cars per household so our car insurance is more expensive, and they raise gas prices just for us (like we're special or something).
What about entertainment? Depending on where you live one drink can cost like, twelve dollars! Plus advertising is omnipresent, how are we expected to go for one week without shopping?
If you're living in the life in the fabulous lane here in Cali, and even if you're not, here are some thing to consider when trying to cut your costs:
Fuel:
First, attack the gas problem. I have a semi-fuel efficient car and it's costing like 40 dollars every time I want to put a decent amount of gasoline into my car. That being said, I'm getting a scooter! Scooters hold like one and two gallons of gas and they get anywhere between 70 -100 miles per gallon! Doesn't that beat the puny thirty-two miles per gallon so many cars boast? Insurance for the ones that go less the 40 mph is cheap and you don't need a special license. However, for the ones that go faster, you need the special license. Find used ones in classifieds for anywhere between eight hundred to sixteen hundred dollars. New ones can be a little as twenty two hundred. Plus think about it, the weather is bearable here like 300 out of the 365 days a year; you'll get a lot of use out of it. Keep the car for family events, road trips, or whatever.
Bills:
Next, get rid of bills you don't need. Do you have a storage unit? Do you have an accidental death and dismemberment policy you bought from a retail store? Do you have a gym membership you never use? Do you really stick to the diet plan you pay hundreds for? I mean what's the point of signing up if you're going to cheat every day? When was the last time you read the newspaper at home, on paper? Do you still tan fifteen days out of the month? Some things, you really can live without. Just unsubscribe, and get on with your life.
The Plastic:
Call your credit card company and say, "Hi, I spoke to one of your representatives a couple of months ago, and s/he was telling me that I qualify for a lower interest rate...I want to know, am I still eligible for that? It was only like two
