For most automobiles, regular gasoline is just as good as premium. A majority of newer automobiles have sensors that recognize fuel efficiency with a lower octane fuel. With fuel prices at four dollars a gallon, some consumers are throwing money into the wind with fuel that cost twenty cents or more per gallon with the assumption of achieving higher fuel efficiency. The most that a consumer may achieve is one to two miles more per gallon with a higher octane fuel than what the consumer would achieve with a regular grade gasoline. Paying four dollars more for a tank of fuel to fill a twenty gallon tank isn't worth spending, unless someone is a true believer in spending more with the expectation of making the planet greener, and that in itself is also a bad assumption. Regular gasoline and premium gasoline burns the same way, also today's gasoline doesn't have some of the pollutants that it once had during the earlier years with higher levels of lead and sulphur contents. To become greener of gasoline is to be able to convert to non-gasoline resources with alternative engine styles, but with a lame duck congress whom can only point blame to one another and not be able to achieve anything with any value to the american people, then what can we do. We just have to keep pushing buttons, shake things up to a point where the lobbyist filled congress will finally listen and understand that this nation is controlled by the people, not by the corporations whom has paid the way for them to take a seat in our government.

Some of today's newer automobiles with higher technology type turbo chargers and fuel systems do require a higher, premium gasoline. Be careful to properly use what is required for your automobile. To spend more for gasoline is cheaper than to replace parts and pay for labor by trying to go cheaper for travel. When buying a new car, be sure to ask questions to the dealer about the type of gasoline is recommended for that particular vehicle in which you are considering to purchase. Also, talk with the dealership shop foreman about the type of fuel to use for that vehicle, and whom he recommends purchasing fuel from.

Shop around and do research concerning certain types of gasoline sold from certain marketers. Some marketers use a cheaper base alternative to add to the gasoline to stretch it out, so to get more gasoline sales for the dollar. This type of gasoline can cause the engine to bog down and perform at a lower level. This in itself can decrease fuel
