Poetry: Darkness

by Victor Dissimilis

Celeno

It was a place I'd never been before
As I moved across the crowded floor
I stood back to let the barman pass
As he wiped the blood from a broken glass
There she sat, as cool as they come
Tracing her name with a severed thumb
Celeno

As I watched her through the smoky haze
Her sunken eyes transfixed my gaze
She drew breath & took away my smile
She bade me sit with her & stay awhile
My heart was beating double time
As she pressed her lips on mine
Celeno

As her talons tore my flesh from bone
She swore to me I'd never be alone
I pledged in turn that I would never stray
That I would close my eyes on break of day
I knew I'd never need the sun
As we entwined & became one
Celeno

Celeno came to me, a soldier slain
Across the battlefield she called my name
Celeno owns my whole, my heart entire
I would crawl to her through Hades' fire
Creature of darkness only I could see
She stole my soul & set me free
Celeno
