Why is the iPod so expensive?

The iPod is perhaps one of the most innovative music system devices ever made. They have become probably the best selling music listening device in recent years. The iPod have simple players from the shuffle brand, to the more commonly used nano and also there is the nano with video capabilities. The iPhone also produced by Apple also includes a mobile phone that combines the technology of a iPod with the high range of features that mobile technology has to offer.

The cost of the iPods are expensive are expensive as the products are likely to be made overseas and the iPod is a fairly new company that has a limited range of products. Therefore it has to offer the consumers with a unique and hi tech device that uses many technology features.

On nano iPod the consumer is able to save store and play music files. It is straightforward to operate and the battery time is also good. The transfering of files can be done using iTunes software and the synchronisation also is done through this same software package. The design of the iPod also aims to add value as other mp3 players are fairly small or poorly designed. An iPod however is beautifully created and is highly hand held and portable. People can adjust the volume which I have found not to be great. The ability to listen to the different bass and treble is not exceptional. Though as a pioneering brand, Apple have stolen a march by having a intuitive design that customers want.

Features wise the iPod also stores a high level of music files depending on which brand is purchased. The synchronisation of say 1000 music files takes ages. The battery life of an iPod lasts around 8 or 9 hours. It is also scratchable design in the silver and the paint colour designs. The features on the iPod is probably the area where the company has invested the most in time and money and compared to more simpler featured models this is probably the most likely reason why the Apple iPod is more expensive than the field. The design of the headphones is probably another adding feature that looks better than most other standard mp3 headphones.

I would also point out that based on the recent success of the Apple corporation the prices of these goods tend to be higher than competitors as the start up costs require a good or fast pay back and therefore some people are earning a good income from Apple. The consumer receives a high quality device for playing music and audio files and asides this I am still lost as to why the iPod is so expensive.
