Poetry: Darkness

INSOMNIA

4 am in the morning, world sleeping
Even the moon is yawning.
Shadows dance in darkened places,
Trees taunting, cruel faces.
The world's heartbeat is slow and calm
As blackened skies do work their charm,
Yet my mind will bring no peace,
Oh please somebody, let me sleep!'
But who can hear your cries at night?
A solitary, lonely plight.
For sunshine's magic's paled away,
As she too sleeps another day.
So silently I pace the floors,
Time dictates, just six hours more'.
Of this secret, hidden plight,
That comes alive most every night.
Sleep, sleep' I'm begging again
But I'm tired of calling slumbers name.
