Humor: Plus size clothes

Created on: July 26, 2008

I join the ranks of plus size women everywhere with, what does this mean. Recently I was in the junior section of a ladies department, and walked up to the cashier to ask "Does this come in a size 20". I Do not know about you but I just love those looks of what are you doing in this area. She replied "the plus sizes are two isles over". I couldn't help my self, so I did it, I said "yes mam I noticed the tents are us section for women over 80, but I am not that old yet". She was totally dumb struck. Deciding this store just was not going to workout for my needs, I headed through the mall to another store in hopes of finding something I could live with.

I got there and was looking in the juniors section at a pair of size 16 jeans that were cute as they could be. A worker from that area walked up and said "mam the size your looking for is over by the ladies department". I was so offended in more ways than one. First she assumed they were for me, and secondly she assumed to know my size. I did not know that if I was a plus size that I was not allowed to shop in another department. Instead of saying something to this rude woman, I went to the cashier in another section and asked to speak to the manager. I thought I was in luck when she said "she would get her". Yes, a woman she will understand the problem here. Oh, was I mistaken, a woman yes but a about a size four at tops. After I explained the problem. She said "I am sure you can understand how our attendant might of made this kind of a mistake, but I will have a word with her about it". No I did not know how she could of made the mistake that I might of been shopping for my daughter or another family member.
After that day I never stepped foot in the store again but once, which did happen to be one of my daughters favorite stores to shop at. I did however contact the regional manager about their store policies on attending to their customers. Then proceeded to tell him about my experience in one of their stores. He turned out to be very polite, and has a plus size wife. There for he was very offended by my treatment. Two weeks later I recieved a gift certificate for $50, which I proudly walked into the juniors department and used.
I do not like the label plus size anymore than any other woman. I think it is demeaning to us. I have noticed though that the plus size men's department is called "big and tall". Are men special when it comes to being over weight? No, but a man that is over weight is pretty much concidered
