Sea World San Antonio is a theme park, wildlife excursion, water park and showplace all rolled into one location. Opened in 1988, this 250-acre marine-theme park is located in the Westover Hills outside San Antonio, Texas.
Sea World San Antonio and its sister Sea World facilities are members of both the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. All are owned by the Busch Entertainment Corporation which is a subsidiary of the Anheuser-Busch Corporation.
Advertised as the largest marine-life educational park at its opening, Sea World San Antonio continues to be one of the top ten attractions in the state of Texas. Like many other educationally based venues, the animal shows were not enough to keep the attendants from returning. The thrill rides, water park and Clydesdale horses provide additional motivation for return visits.
For the animal lovers, there are water creature habitats to peruse where flamingos, seal lions, sharks, penguins, and fish can be seen in their natural environment. There are many shows where you can choose to watch or interact with the animals.
Of course the most well known is the killer whale show in Shamu Stadium. This show features four orcas Tuar, Unna, Keet and Kyuquot. As to be expected, the first several rows of the stadium are the "soak rows" as the killer whales will splash the audience during their performance.
The new show, titled "Believe" was first presented to audiences in 2006. This features an underwater camera with giant projection screen so the audience will miss none of the action. The show is choreographed to tell the story of a female trainer who longed to work with killer whales since the age of nine.
Another fun show is with Clyde and Seamore, the sea lions. The current show is titled the "Cannery Row Caper" and showcases a mystery that must be solved by these two energetic sea lions. The two sea lions present an entirely different show in the evenings, titled "Sea Lions Tonight!"
Not to be outdone, the dolphins but on a wonderful show titled "Viva." Here the dolphins and beluga whales are showcased with many water screens and water fountains. Humans are included in this act with high diving and synchronized swimming enhancing the animals' antics. Nighttime features a different show entitled "Summer Nights".
WaterSKi Stadium is a very large venue the sits in the middle of Sea World San Antonio. Rockin' Ski Party starts of with a humorous pre-show that entertains the crowd
