Presidential Elections 2008

US elections 2008: "Pocketbook" issues that will influence the next election

Seemingly, this would be the year when the presidential candidate would be chosen for the pocket book issues that face everyone in America. However, other countries have an indirect bearing on our economy too, which many times voters forget about.

The extreme rise in the price of gas has opened the eyes of the people in the USA. The price at the pump has created a new awareness of the dependency on foreign oil, which was ignored. Now the debate flares over to drill or not to drill, and just how would be the best solution for bringing the prices down-which in reality , the average citizen knows very little about! Assuming, that drilling would be the quickest and easiest way-forgetting that big complex places would have to be constructed to process the raw material or we would have to ship it to other countries which we do now-and pay them to ready it for our gas stations-so we pull up for a quick fill up and be on our way!

Also the gas hike has sparked the need for the USA to talk of developing new energy sources. Nuclear Energy seems to be one of great interest. Nuclear seems like a quick fix-where to put the waste is a major concern that is talked about very little! Plus , I'm not sure much thought has been given as to just how close would one want it to their town-just in case of a leak!

Also there is a debate for wind and solar no matter what is decided a decision should be made soon-maybe we need a combination of all the above so people are never again dependant on one form of energy-but for now this remains a pocketbook issue, which also brings the issue of our environment into play, hence global warming. Another issue this year!

The war and it's debate is a pocket book issue even though it's not thought of in that way. The war is being paid for by the tax dollars from US citizens. One thinks about the military and the loss of life which far outweighs the cost-and this always should be forethought in ones mind! So, when and how to get out remains top debate factors among the two candidates. The USA seems divided on if the military should have been there or not-surge worked or didn't water under the bridge- time to come home-put the money in America's own infrastructure and rebuild the military once again-this debate is complex!

The people in the USA are paying a small fortune in insurance! Car, house, health, life, and to top it all off taxes are high too! Much more now has to come out of the pocket then one has in it!
The housing foreclose, banks , businesses, that are not only laying off their employees, but closing their doors forever are at an all time high! You talk about pocketbook issues there is an abundance of them for sure, this year.

Most every issue is tied in with other countries too-so- nations must work together, to help solve the pocketbook issues of not only ones own country but those around the world!
I have no idea how the United States has gotten into the state it is in this year-but hopefully everyone this year will vote and choose the President by listening to what each candidate says- no hearsay everyone has a brain, ears, eyes, -time to use all to the fullest because this year more then ever before-the one chosen- will defiantly effect the pocketbook
