Biography: Curly Howard

Curly Howard was born on October 22nd, 1903 and died on January 18th 1952. He was one of the three stooges with the brothers Moe Howard and Shemp Howard.
Curly was born in Brooklyn, new York. He had four brothers and he was the youngest. He was teased by his brothers by calling him Jeremy "Babe".

At the time when curly was twelve, he shot him self on the ankle but it was only an accident. Moe rushed him to the hospital and Curly was saved.


He was so frightened of the surgery that he never got it fixed. While he was known as one of the three stooges, he tried hiding the limp. In a few scenes Curly's legs were exposed.

It is known that jerry had married a young girl who no one knows about. His mother did not accept the marriage because he was at a young age. But bill Cappello researched and said that jerry had married his first wife in 1930 and that he was only 27 years old. It was soon discovered that jerry's family only fabricated the story to avoid scandal in the Jewish family.
Jerry liked music and comedy. He used to like watching his brothers perform and he always stayed around the backstreet and get food for the performers to eat.

At one time, curly started drinking, smoking and eating a lot. Curly always wore a hat in public to show masculinity. He said that he felt like a kid with his head shaved off.

He had difficulties in his finances. he spent his money mostly on wine, food, women, homes and cars. But his brother always helped him with his problem and he often gave curly some money to pay his finances and income tax.

By 1946, Curly's health had become worse. And he suffered a few minor strokes, because of this, his performances declined.
Curly suffered a major stroke on May 6, 1946 while he was filming Three Stooges comedy episode called Half-Wits Holiday. He finished most of the film except the ending. Moe found Curly sitting on with his head on his shoulder. Curly was crying and he couldn't speak. His brother then knew that Curly suffered a severe stroke. He took residence at the Motion Picture Home Hospital in California.




Death

On January 18th, 1952, Curly died from a massive cerebral haemorrhage. He was only 48 years old and he was at a sanatorium in California. The brothers broke out after finding out and they were devastated. At the time, White was shooting Booty and The Beast. But it was postponed and the production was resumed in May,1952.
