Vicoden is the brandname for Hydrocodone that is made by Abbott Pharmaceuticals. HYdrocodone is also in brandname drugs such as LOrcet, Lortab, Zydone etc.

The danger of any opiate is physical dependence. When opiates are artificially put in the body via a pain pill, in this case Vicoden your body is flooded with these artificial opiates. I never described the feeling of a opiate as a buzz. To me opiates give me a shot of energy and elevated my mood. And it is not a intoxicating clouded feeling of euphoria. Opiates in the proper dose are the only substance that do not impede motor skills, mental coordination or other mental faculties. This is a fact. If opiates are given and a person gets tired, it was too much for them.

Hydrocodone works by binding to pain receptors in the spine. They block pain. A opiate is like a golf ball shutting off the flow of pain in a garden hose. Some opiates stick unto receptors longer, some shorter etc. This is what can be referred to as the drug's affinity. Potency is not affinity. Now your body is meant to feel pain. It is telling you there is an injury there. When you take a pain pill such as Vicoden you are masking the pain. These things enable you to do things more briskly. You will not have sore feet from walking on Vicoden , however when the drug wears off your brain than realizes the extra wear and tear you put on your body while you were accomplishing tasks while under the influence of it. And you are more tired and exhausted prior to what you were taking the meds. You are not aware of what you are doing to yourself physically.

Physical dependence starts in the brain. Your brain wants that blood level that it had and these changes in brain registries as a result of the narcotic change Serotonin/dopamine levels etc. The need to want another pill is not a "Craving" but a genuine mental need. A pregnant woman craves pickles. Cravings is a stupid word to describe the need for more opiates. You mentally and physically require them. You crave "White Castles." Not pain pills. The person takes more to want this blood level. This is how it starts. If you are not presribed them they are nothing to experiment with!

There are other theories on how dependence begins (This is one thing i read in short, paraphrased) "This is where a hormone is flooded in the body when there is pain, and when the opiate is administered this hormone goes up. This Theory is that when you suffer severe pain/trauma, the levels of this hormone Cholecystokinin (CCK)
