I did wear a pre-owned wedding gown and would do it again. A few friends grimaced at the idea of me wearing a dress someone else had already been in. It was clean, it fit, looked great on me and it cost me nearly nothing. I wasn't gonna wear the dress my mom had on her day- it was blue, too small and looked like something Laura Ingalls wore before her. Did I mention my mom wore a cowboy-like hat with it too?

Too much focus is put on the ceremony these days. People spend so much money on dresses, decorating the church, having an a huge expensive dinner for the guest, the limousine ride, hot air balloon- whatever way they will depart. So much money for this one day.

Sure it should be beautiful and it SHOULD be something you do one time and you want your photos and video to capture the essence of beauty for a lifetime of memories. Is anyone having a hallmark moment yet? But all of this for one day?

Women spend time losing weight to fit into this expensive dress and spend time bragging about how much it cost and who the designer is and it gets costly. The bride and groom will have a future together once the ceremony is over. A future consisting of bills. Bills that will be difficult to pay if you still owe for a dress and other wedding related articles.

Wearing a pre-owned dress saves money- bottom line and it is not a dress that you will wear again. Many of us probably couldn't fit in the dress three months later once we become relaxed with our new spouses and forget about the things we did to get his attention before marriage: working out and keeping that fabulous figure!

We spend time arguing over the wedding plans, looking for a NEW dress and the actual day goes by so fast, them we look around thinking, "Wow that went fast!" And the wedding day does. We are so tired from the planning and actual ceremony that we may not fully "enjoy" the honeymoon night because we are snoring!

What happens if you spend all this money on a new dress and the marriage lasts two years? Imagine how upsetting it would be to think about the money spent on a new dress. The dress can't be taken back for a refund and there is no need thinking about suing your now ex-wife or husband to get some of the money spent back.

More focus needs to be on the marriage- the union. Really think about the vows. Heck, use the money you would spend on a new dress to get some pre-marital counseling. This is more important and more beneficial.
