The town of Sousa in the Dominican Republic is the kind of place you go to for a vacation, stay longer than you originally intended and end up buying a business and making this beautiful coastal town your home.
Sousa is a quaint, charming town that offers a vacationer warm tropical breezes and warm friendly people to cater to your every whim. And most of the time you don't even have to say anything because the super friendly people here will come right up to you and ask if you want to rent a beach chair, or if they can get you a drink. Tourists may think they are being aggressive, but they aren't really. They are just trying to make a living. But they are so friendly and helpful, that even in a short time you will make so many new friends.
This town is filled with expats from Germany, England and even America. Many people that have come to visit have stayed. Back in the 1940's, Jewish people came here to escape the Nazi regime. Only about 700 Jewish people escaped, but they helped the area become a thriving economic center of the Dominican Republic. In 1980 the town threw open its doors to the world by building roads and an international airport. That way people could get into the town directly instead of having to travel longer distances.
The town of Sousa is a great place for anyone to come to visit due to the vast amount of activities and restaurants and rocking bars open until about 2 in the morning. Just the warm, friendly easy going attitude of the people keep many families, retirees and young couples traveling here. People here still ride donkeys to get around and you can rent one to ride.
This coastal community has an expansive, long stretch of beach that offers a beautiful view of the super blue water and the skyline with mountains in the background. The beach offers a day of fun, and relaxation where you can swim right out to the beautiful coral reefs. At the beach you can rent or buy whatever you need and the locals rent recliners for the day. And they act as your waiter/waitress for the day getting you whatever you want. You can even get your nails done on the beach.
While on the beach play volleyball, try windsurfing, have fun surfing, and scuba diving. There are jeep safaris to bounce around in, and many dance classes where you can learn to meringue, or salsa. Visit nearby Puerto Plato and Santiago to tour a rum or cigar factory.
Sousa in The Dominican Republic has a wide variety of people that are very friendly and welcoming. It is so inexpensive, and has such an inviting atmosphere that you might just want to live here for the rest of your life.
