"THE ADVENTURES OF AFRICA"
Introduction
On an island faraway, near the tip of a great continent, lives a girl named Africa. In a bright colored hut built on big logs moored to the island's edge, Africa lives with her baby brother, Toby.
Africa and Toby have a wonderful time living together for they love each other dearly. They spend their days swimming in the ocean, playing hide and seek in the giant reeds surrounding their floating hut; climbing the beautiful trees on the island; picking and eating the various fruits growing everywhere and riding the back of their dearest friend, Freddy the Lion.
On warm and balmy nights, after dinner, they sit on the beach, under the stars and Africa sings Toby his favorite nursery lullabyes, while many of their other animal friends listen on in pure delight, for Africa has a beautiful and richly melodious voice.
On cold and rainy nights, they sit in bed- huddled together under their big dinosaur quilt, and Africa tells scary ghost stories while Toby squeals with freightened laughter. It is one such night that Africa's adventures begin...........................................

She trodded on through the thicket of reeds until she reached the island's firm ground of sandy beach. There she stood still..........calling out again. This time she could a faint crying sound. "Make more noise" she yelled "so I can find you". The crying became a little louder but had a funny hollow echo to it. Africa couldn't figure out where it was coming from so she took a few more steps and before she could stop herself- she was falling through the wet air, into a hole in the beach.
She landed with a thud and a shriek. She had fallen right on top of a furry grey muscrat! "Oh, dear me" cried Africa "are you alright? ". " Oh, yes- yes, I, I think so " stammered the muscrat, shaking himself off of sand. " I was blown into this hole by a big,
