Images of people levitating off the bead or being used as mouth peaces for demons may be what come to mind for most when they hear the term, spiritual abuse. However the reality of spiritual abuse is much more subtle, far reaching and, ultimately, damaging.

Instead of being a spectacular show of weird paranormal phenomena, real spiritual abuse masks it self in messages from the pulpit, from the Sunday school teacher, from the Imam, from the Rabi, from the televangelists and from many of the popular religious authors of our time. It hides in plane sight. Its true genius, if such a word can be applied to something this low and evil, is that it convinces everyone that it is really a good thing motivating those it afflicts to just live good lives. Just try harder. Just do more. Just keep trying not to sin and god won't send you to hell. You may fall, but if you feel sorry enough, god will by lenient with you. Give more in to the religious institution and it will show how good you really are. Don't disagree with the religious leader because he speaks for god and if you disagree with him, god will be angry with you. Do not sin or god may send sickness to punish you. If some one is not healed after you prayed for them, it is because you did not believe hard enough. If you were not healed, it is because you did not believe hard enough. God let the 9/11 attacks happen because of gay people. God sent the Tsunami to South East Asia because of child prostitution. Little do the purveyors of such lies realize that it is mostly children who died?

In reality spiritual abuse is like a cancer that slowly saps the life and hope of those it afflicts. It seeks to water down and dilute the truth of reality. It keeps people under control rather than giving them freedom. In the end it tries to kill the most important relationship a human can have, the one with the real G-d.

It makes its home in the vast majority of organized religion. It has built it self into a strong hold that wishes to dominate and imprison. It wants control. Just like in the popular film, The Matrix, this lie seeks to anesthetize the population into a dream of reality while all the while keeping them under control and enslaved. Its prophets, the religious leaders, may not know what they are doing as they have been enslaved themselves. What they are doing is taking the real G-d and putting him in a cage and charging people's hearts and minds and lives to see him.

Little can they know that the truth is more wonderful
