Is elder abuse worse than child abuse?

Abuse of any type at any age is unacceptable and should not be tolerated! As a survivor of physical, emotion and sexual child abuse my personal feeling is that its much worse for a child than an adult. But in reality, its almost impossible to make any determination which type is worse without examining each individual case and all the other factors that go along with it. For example; relationship of the abuser, details of the type of abuse, frequency of the abuse, time period when the abuse occurred, both the long and short term effects it had on the victim, the victim him/her self, and most importantly was it actual abuse?

There are many forms of "abuse" and "cruelty" taking place everyday the victims are of all ages. Children, Teens, Adults, and Elderly. It's a very real problem that is happening all over the world and to the victims each is in their own personal hell. Regardless of the type of abuse there are long lasting and in some cases irreversible effects on its victims. Even with counseling and therapy the effects can last a lifetime and suppressed memories of the past can be triggered at anytime.

Almost all types of abuse start with some level of mental or emotional abuse and then becomes physical or sexual. a child is more vulnerable to mental and emotional abuse than adults and teenagers. i.e.: a child can be conditioned to allow physical abuse to themselves, inflict abuse on others, or willingly perform sexual acts because of mental or emotional abuse from their abuser

Many times with children the abuse goes unreported because the threats made by abusers have a greater impact than they do on any other age group. In cases where it is reported or discovered the child victims often deny or recant details making prosecution of abusers difficult. In many case parents are reluctant to put their child through the stress of a trial.

Several groups and organizations have been established over the years and more are forming everyday to seek out and eliminate the problem. The "abusers" are aware of the crackdown as well and take steps to remain undetected much of the real abuse takes place behind closed doors where noone can see.

Society is no longer turning a blind eye and getting more involved in reporting abuse. But in attempts to eliminate "abuse" these organizations, the government and society has in a sense created a "witch hunt". Report of abuse is most often used as a threat to keep parents from disciplining a child, custody battles, avoid taking responsibility
