These days you can buy or rent almost any TV show on DVD. This is a great opportunity to either rediscover TV shows you loved or catch up on TV shows you missed. With so many choices available to you, it might be difficult to figure out where to start. To help you along here are five of the best TV shows that are out on DVD.
Six Feet Under
Six Feet Under is probably one of the best television dramas ever made, and a show that I enjoyed watching more than most other TV series. It aired between 2001 and 2005, lasting a total of five seasons. The show revolves around a family-run funeral home and explores the lives of the Fisher family following the death of their husband and father. The main characters are brothers David and Nate, who start running the family business after their father dies.
Then there is Claire, their younger sister, who spends a lot of time drinking, doing drugs and hating life, as many college kids do. Finally, mother Ruth is a very peculiar woman, one minute she is very uptight and withdrawn and the next she is screaming and crying, wondering what is wrong with their family. At first glance the show may appear as a conventional family drama, however, the show distinguishes itself by its strong focus on the topic of death, which is explored in many different ways.
Besides dealing with death, Six Feet Under also has a strong dosage of dark humor running throughout the series. A recurring plot device consists of a character having an imaginary conversation with a deceased person, which is often the father who has passed away. If you are interested in more than your average kind of TV drama series, and you like to ponder death, dark humor or magical realism, this show just might be for you. Go rent those DVDs now, I promise you will not regret it.
A TV show that I enjoyed even more than Six Feet Under is Buffy the vampire slayer. This cult TV series aired from 1997 until 2003, lasting an impressive seven seasons. During those seven seasons, we follow the life and adventures of Buffy Summers, a vampire slayer who is chosen by fate to battle against vampires, demons and the forces of darkness.
Buffy battles the demons and vampires with the aid of her Watcher Rupert Giles, who trains and guides her, and her friends, who are also known as the Scooby gang. The Scooby gang consists of Buffy's best friends Xander and Willow, and their various love interests. Xander is a funny guy, and also a bit of a loser. Willow is a lovely geek,
