How to be happy in everyday life

by Joymaker

To be happy everyday is a work in itself. First and foremost, it is of highly importance to define happiness. What is this word really about? Is it a pleasant filling? A state of mind? Or is it maybe a word to define long lasting joy?

Why do we pursuit happiness if we don't have a clear Idea of what it is? We do know the opposite of it which is misery. So technically you can be happy or miserable. What does this depend on?

If there was a concrete fact in life is that we all pursuit happiness. Never the less many people spend a considerable amount of their lives being miserable. This might be related to the unreal relationship between accomplishing and then being happy that we have created in our minds.

We are thought to plan and achieve ever since we are little. He have an educational system based on achieving, professional and work life systems, sports, and the list could go on and on. Now, I'm not saying we should not whish for, plan and go for things (after all that is the pillar of the western world). Never the less, achieving and getting will bring us a sense of accomplishment called satisfaction. And satisfaction can not be happiness; otherwise we would spend all our life being unhappy.

I believe happiness is a way and not something we can pursuit (my apologies and deepest respect to Thomas Jefferson). For our entire life is a way and not a destiny. I believe we have short checkpoints in our lives when we reach those dreams and goals (i.e. a family, the job, a son, a degree, money, the house, the boat, the car) and we feel glad we got there, probably thankful, proud, joy-full, exited, satisfied. However, those short moments will then be replaced by setting up new goals and panning ahead for our next target (we are a race of achievers).

Life is too short to enjoy only those moments where we reach checkpoints. Not all days are sunny, not all news are good news, not all years will be the best of our lives so far. Therefore happiness must be the path we transit in life. We decide to reach those goals (walk through life) while being miserable or embracing happiness.

So my attempt of defining happiness and a way of living happily every day is to embrace life, get so attached to it (whatever it brings with it) so that your last day on this earth will take you by surprise and death would have a hard time dealing with you. Believe in the afterlife, not because this one sucks and there should be something better, but because time is an insufficient tool to measure life. Embrace the good and accept the bad.

Don't make anything your treasure.., if taken from you then you will suffer. Only attach to those things that are beyond time so that they will outlive you. To sense the world is to experience it, to understand it is to observe it, try to find the balance on both and know the difference. Always remember that wisdom and science will take away your self-child but will help you take better decisions so don't take knowledge to serious. It is just a necessary evil.

Finally, remember that you will never miss your shot. There is always a way out, there is always a way in., but there is never a way back.
