Haunting Love
What is it about you that haunts me
refuses to leave me in peace
What is it that constantly calls me
the whisper refusing to cease
A song from the past can ignite it
A word or a phrase brings you here
And, try as I might, I can't fight it
You just seem to always be near
I wonder if time will erase it
or leastwise will buffer the pain
That belongs to the memories, haunting
the feelings that always remain
Though life rages on all about me
continually black'ning the skies
There still is a calm when you enter
And never is it a surprise
I cannot imagine the future
the present is terror enough
I think I have found calming waters
yet again does the sea become rough
But I know, in my heart, what befalls me
and all that the heavens shall rain
Is buffered somehow in your spirit
for with me you'll always remain
