Right field is one of the most under rated positions to play. It is the outfield position where the strongest arm is. Places like Fenway Park make right field a nightmare for anyone who roams there. Right field has witnessed arguably the best players to ever play the game. These are not only the greatest right fielders of all time, but some of the best of all time.
5. Number 21 for the Pittsburgh Pirates, he had his amazing career cut short. Roberto Clemente was a great player but many overlook the fact that he was an amazing person. Roberto was a 12-time All-Star with 12 Gold Gloves to go along with it. He was the National League MVP in 1966 and had a lifetime batting average of .317. His career ended with exactly 3,000 hits and 1,305 runs batted in. His canon arm was feared by many as he could gun down just about anyone from anywhere on the field. Clemente's career and his life were cut short when his plane crashed. He was carrying supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. On December 31, 1932, baseball lost a great player, and the world lost an amazing person. Roberto Clemente is the 5th greatest right fielder of all time.
4. New York Giant great, Mel Ott. Ott makes the list on statistical greatness. He was a career .304 hitter, with 511 home runs. Mel scored over 1,800 runs and accumulated 2,876 hits. His 1,860 run batted in and 488 doubles are very nice statistics. Ott was an 11-time All-Star. Mel was the first player in National League history to reach the 500 home run plateau.
3. Frank Robinson was one of the all time Red greats and was a 12-time All-Star. He was a Triple Crown winner and had an MVP in both the National and American Leagues. A .294 career hitter, he belted 586 home runs while driving in 1,812. With nearly 3,000 hits and over 500 doubles he is an offensive powerhouse. A Rookie of the Year winner with 1 Gold Glove, Frank was all about the offense. One of the greatest hitters of all time, Frank Robinson is the 3rd greatest right fielder of all time.
2. Many would put the next player at number 1, claiming he was the best to ever play the game. I however disagree. Number 2 is "The Bambino" or "The Sultan Of Swat." It is none other than Babe Ruth. He was a career .342 hitter with 714 home runs. He scored 2,174 runs and drove in 2,213. With 2,873 hits, 506 of which were doubles, he was a great hitter. Some say well he was a pitcher for so long, he could have had much better numbers had he been a position player his entire career. I do not play that game of "what if." It is what it is. He was a 2-time All-Star with 1 MVP award in 1923. Babe Ruth is the 2nd greatest right fielder of all time.
1. Number one is "The Hammer." His massive statistics should earn him this spot alone, but there is so much more. Aaron was a lifetime .305 hitter and crushed 755 home runs. He drove in 2,297 runs while massing 3,771 hits. Hank could also run, he stole 240 bases being caught only 73 times. Many that played with him say he was just as good defensively, if not better, than Willie Mays. He persevered through racism, hate, and violence to capture the home run record. He ignored death threats on his way to becoming the greatest home run hitter of all time. He was a 3-time Gold Glove winner and 1- time MVP winner in 1957. He was voted to the All-Star game 24 times and was inducted into the Hall of Fame with a percentage of 98%. He missed being the first unanimous induction ever by only 9 votes. Hank Aaron is the greatest right fielder in the history of baseball.
