Four Award Winning Golf Courses in Whistler, BC
How often will you get a chance to play at a golf course that legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer designed? Not often, I'd guess. Next time you're in British Columbia, plan a long stay in Whistler so you'll have a chance to play all four award-winning courses. The scenery of lakes, rivers and surrounding mountains is beyond compare and has made it a world-class golfing destination.
The Nicklaus North Golf Course
The 2005 TELUS was played here in which Jack Nicklaus competed. This challenging 18- hole golf course has the Jack Nicklaus "signature design" with his famous bunkering. It's a beautiful pro course that's available to all skill levels. The Nicklaus North Golf Course is a 18-hole, par 71 with 6908 yardage, 133 slope and a 72 rating. Rated 4.5 by Golf Digest. It is open May through to the beginning of October.
Stop by the Den Restaurant and Grill and enjoy lunch on the lakeside patio after a round of morning golf. Or, bring your spouses along for their Sunday brunch.
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
This golf course was voted one of the top ten courses of the world by Conde Nast Traveler and is considered the top course in Canada. Mountain golfing at it's best, granite mountain walls stand just behind the Douglas firs that frame a course full of creeks, ponds and waterfalls. It was given a 4 star rating by Golf Digest and a "best course in BC" by Score Magazine readers. The Fairmont Chateau has 18- holes, par 72 with 6635 of yardage.
Try the "Golf and Grill" package which includes a barbeque on the clubhouse terrace after an afternoon of golfing. Or, work on your swing and take a class or two at the David Leadbetter Academy.
The Whistler Golf Club
A short drive from Whistler Village, this course was the first Arnold Palmer design for Canada. Arnold must have specifically decided the location of the first tee with views of snow capped mountains and mature cedars and firs along the fairways. With 6722 yeards, this 18-hole course is a par 71 with a slope of 136 and a rating of 72. You'll love Arnolds Bar and Grill for lunch at the Whistler Golf Club with their outdoor bar and barbeque located on an 80 seat terrace just off of the 18th green.
The Big Sky Golf and Country Club
Located in the nearby town of Pemberton, this golf course boasts unsurpassed snowcapped mountain views as well as the commendation of Golf Digest. It's not just the mountains that will take your breath away, Big Sky Golf and Country Club enjoys Green River, seven lakes and several creeks bordering it. The lush course sits like an emerald island just twenty-five minutes north of Whistler. The Big Sky Golf and Country Club, with 18-holes and 7001 yards, is a par 72 with a slope of 131 and rating of 73.
