There is another word for hate, it is called envy. You hate what you can not be. In this case it is the most succesful sports franchise in the history of proffessional sports. Twenty six world championships, countless super stars, hall of famers, and the most proffitable logo in all of sports. No sports team be it hockey, football, basketball, or baseball has had twenty six championships. True there have been dynasties such as the BOSTON CELTICS, The New York Islanders, or The Montreal Canadians, but lets be real. The Yankees have had continued success for close to a century rivaled by none. From Babe Ruth, To Lou Gerigh, Joe Diamaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, to Derek Jeter, few if any sports teams can boast such a resume. Players like Derek Jeter not only give one hundred percent on the field, but also give back to the community, have a strong sense of family, and in all facets of life is what a Yankee is. A winner! The number one logo in all of sports as far as merchandising sales dollars is the intersecting NY that symbolises the Yankees. It is easy to hate that which we wish our teams could become. It is also easy to hate a business that makes countless money on it's smart merchandising and marketing savey. Don't give me the crap that their payroll is to high, or that because they are a New York Team that is the only reasons why they win. In the business world you have to spend money to make money. Most important is spending money wisly. Teams have thrown out millions of dollars for players whose egos are bigger than the team, or turn out to be dogs, and yes all teams are guilty of this even the Yankees, but it is the big picture and the proven track record that is the proof of the pudding. Twelve straight years in the playoffs is an amazing accomplishment. Over four million fans pouring into Yankee Stadium for three straight years. It is easy to hate the Yankees. Or is it envy? Do you find yourself hating the family in town with the big house, indoor swimming pool and thre Mercedes? They have succeeded and have what you don't. It is the same with the yankee legacy. we as New York Yankee fans have had our ups and downs, but have always held our heads high. We know that success is not just wins and loses. It is history, the way in which you win or lose, and how adversity is faced. This is a lesson that trancends sports and is useful in every day life. In the business world winners and losers are not defined in dollars and cents, but by the good they do in their daily lives. Don't hate those who have won more than you. Learn from them. all sports fans must learn not to hate those who have kicked you ass for a century, but to learn they ways of succeeding from others success. It is just sports. Get real! Why hate? Enjoy the distraction provided and enjoy your life. The premiss of hating a sports team is ridiculous. If you are going to hate anyone or anything, hate Bin Laden. I do.
