The main purpose of writing is to make your readers understand clearly what you are trying to convey. English language is being used widely by people from all over the world. However, it is a fact that oftentimes writers forget that there are readers who are still learning the basics of the language. This defeats the purpose of trying to make your readers decipher your message.
If your writing is for the global audience, communicate in a way that people who use English as a second language can thoroughly understand. It is the responsibility of the writers to be clear of how their message is being delivered. To avoid confusion and negative feedback from the readers, information should be carefully constructed.
There is a need to avoid ambiguous words and phrases that only native speakers of English can understand. Analogies, idiomatic expressions, slang and colloquial expressions are inappropriate as communication can become ineffective when these are used. Remember to always say what you really mean as words can be understood differently. Your concepts as a writer must come in terms with how readers are going to interpret what you want to deliver. More often than not, non-native speakers of English language give literal meanings to certain words that are vague. The more you use simple words and phrases, the more that it would be easy for them to understand your idea.
One important consideration to be mindful about is other people's culture, values and beliefs. If your main target is the global audience, you need to be sensitive enough of what the reader needs or dislikes considering that they come from different cultures. Each reader is unique in his or her own way, thus it is essential to be extra careful in creating a communication material to serve the purpose of being an effective writer.
Refrain from constructing long sentences in your writing as this can definitely confuse your readers. It is difficult for international readers to grasp exactly the main point of communication if sentences are too long. When you want your message received with clarity, make your sentences short, yet informative. In this manner, you can help those who are still learning English language by not confusing them. It is essential that you only use the appropriate words and not more than what is required to express your idea.
As much as possible, try to avoid words with multiple meanings like "since" as this can mean "because" or "from a time in the past until now". Another example is the word "while" which could mean "although" or "at the same time". Words may be the same but differ in their meanings thus, refrain from using such.
If you're into a business, there is an ultimate need to write for the global audience to maximize your profitability. To be clearly understood by consumers, it is a must that you do not make things complicated for them. Do not confuse your clients with your product information that would make it difficult for them to decide on buying. Increase your profits by making your clients from around the world understand clearly what your product is all about.
As an efficient writer, the focal point is to make readers understand fairly your ideas and concepts. Know the level of understanding of your audience to become globally successful in delivering your communication material. Remember to be culturally sensitive in constructing your information. The true value of a writer is measured by how your readers have understood what you have conveyed. Think of how you can help learners of English and of how greater possibilities can come if you write English for the benefit of the vast majority.
