These words are very familiar to Luciholics, "Lucy, I am home!"
Did you know that she was born in New York back in 1911 and died in 1989?
I would say that Lucille Ball is a legendary woman comedian that many have looked up to. She was a businesswoman in her own right; she knew that Desi Arnaz was a great businessman, actor, and singer. She pushed the envelope in Hollywood, by getting to have him to be the first Cuban-American to produce a show.
She did such comical things that took me away from reality. I am so happy that she was around to make my childhood worthwhile! Maybe it was her funny personality, and her working with Mr. Mooney that indirectly got me into the business of banking. She always had an excuse on one of the shows why she was late for work, and Mr. Mooney was always mad. She was also in another show with Gale Gordon where he was her trust guy at the bank. He only allowed her so much money per week or month. She worked a lot of the shows with Vivian Vance with television sons. Vivian Vance was also a very integral part in many of the shows she was in and very serious but always went along, reluctantly with Lucille's craziness.
One of the stories I liked on one of her shows was when she was in a diner trying to save money. She asked for a cup of hot water, and the waitress or waiter said that's all you want, and she basically said yes. She took a bottle of ketchup, added some salt, and she had tomato soup.
A lot of people remember her for the "chocolate factory skit" with Vivian Vance, and they try to keep up with assembly line, and they can't do it, so they start eating the chocolate.
She was always trying to get into a Hollywood production, and getting on the coattails of Ricky! They had such guests on the shows such as: John Wayne, and many others.
She also was very inspiring to other woman in comedy such as Carol Burnett, and much more!
In one of the articles I read about Lucille she didn't realize her comic abilities. She could do this with her face, and body to make people laugh. Many didn't know how much she cared about her cast, and people around her to take care of her shows!
After her divorce from Desi she bought Desilu Productions, and that was such a wow process because she was a first to do such a thing, and to call all the shots!
She continued to do comedy, and loved doing it!
I miss seeing such a comedic, and no one can top her! She is still well received by many people across the world in the 21st Century.
Who will be the next Lucy or Desi for that matter?
Perhaps, their children - Lucie or Desi will surprise us with a great show?
Thanks Lucy, for giving me a chance to see you as a professional comic. Turning on my television is still a treat when I see you there!
