The personality of classic orange tabby cats

by Marijane Suttor

Classic orange tabby cats make wonderful pets, much like most breeds and colors of the feline animal. While they can have most of the positive and negative traits that most cats have, they commonly are a remarkable pet.

Taming

As outdoor farm cats, orange tabbies are usually easy cats to tame. They are receptive to human contact quite often even at older ages.

Love children

As a family pet, an orange tabby cat makes for a loveable companion for children. They bond easily and tolerate hands that may be a little rougher than a single adult.  They are notoriously forgiving and even if there is a little rough handling, will return for more affection. Once bonded, they remain loyal to the child they love.

Tolerant. In general

The orange tabby cat  is a very tolerant breed. As well as tolerating children, it is quite adaptable to adults. They are not excessively excitable and adapt well to their surroundings.

Loyal

This breed loves all of the people they are bonded with. Once the orange tabby cat is a person's friend, it will be a friend forever. This breed is quite trusting of those with whom it lives.

Purring

Orange tabbies, especially males, have giant roaring purrs that they easily share with others. This purr is part of their magic. Give them a few tickles under the chin or a pat on the head and they are purring contentedly for their owner.

Intelligent

Orange tabbies although not considered a very sophisticated breed, are very intelligent. They are inquisitive and love to find out whatever new is happening in the world. This intelligence makes them study something until they know how it works. Curiosity for toys and game playing make them a pet that can provide entertainment for the owner.

Energetic and Exhausted

These cats tend to demonstrate extreme differences in energy. Often energetic runners who will run up the stairs and race in circles around the house. When they have spent their energy, then they become the Garfield version enjoying a snooze in a basket somewhere warm.

Playful

Orange tabby cats have a history of being excellent hunters. As house cats that hunting instinct generally is not put to use, but as owners it is important to fulfill this desire to hunt.. Provide a wide variety of toys that allow the cat to express this desire to hunt in an appropriate manner.

Not annoying

Orange tabbies have a way of not annoying the people they live with. They tend to be well-behaved, learn the rules easily and understand the wants and needs of a family. They accept their roles and then live to fulfill those roles.

Sweethearts

One of the best descriptions for orange tabby cats is the word sweetheart. They have enormous hearts and affection. Their gentle sweet-natured personalities make them wonderful pets for all ages.

Most, if not all, of these personality qualities apply to most cats, but it seems that orange tabbies have an extra dose of all of them. Full of charisma, they have personalities that mesh well with most owners.
