Having owned several different "classic orange tabby cats" in my life, I can vouch that these fantastic cats are everything in personality plus a little bit extra fun.
I have lived my life in a rural area, much of it spent growing up a farm. I have had the pleasure of owning classic orange tabby cats as outdoor cats as well as indoor pets. These are observations based on experience and by no means scientifically proven. I must add that I am biased to believe that all cats have wonderful and unique personalities to be treasured, but the orange tabby is a definite favorite of mine.
1)Taming. As outdoor farm cats, the orange tabbies always seemed to be the easiest cats to tame. They were receptive to human contact and the least likely to be scared of us as children.
2)Love kids. I have never seen tame orange tabby cats that did not love children. Although I am sure there are stories of those who have had bad experiences with this breed, I have absolutely no evidence of this. The latest orange tabby to our family was adopted from the animal shelter as an adult. She tolerated our family for the first month. It was definitely not love, but the first person she bonded to was my daughter who was four at the time.
3) Tolerant. In general this is a very tolerant breed. As they love kids, they tend to put up with the carrying and strong physical affection that a child brings to pet ownership. Although they have their limits, they will put up with quite a bit especially if the cat is bonded to a child. Generally when they have had enough, they find a secret get-a-way to fortify themselves for the next time.
4) Loyal. This breed loves all of the people they are bonded with. My childhood orange Tom cat on the farm was almost a soul mate, but he was an outdoor cat who did wander. He would disappear for a week or so at a time, but would always come back to us. One day we discovered that our neighbor claimed him as her pet too. We always knew when he was coming home, as we could hear him meowing for us all the way up the driveway. For more than ten years he was a beloved pet to two families. Once they are bonded, they will always be your pet.
5) Purrfect. Orange tabbies, especially males, have giant roaring purrs and they purr so easily. This roaring purr is part of their magic. Give them a few tickles under the chin or a pat on the head and they are motoring.
6) Intelligent. Orange tabbies although not considered a very sophisticated breed, are very intelligent. They are inquisitive
