US elections 2008: Barack Obama's choices for vice president

What I find most distressing about this presidential election, is there has been no-one, and I mean no-one, who has made me want to proclaim loud and clear, I want " Him, " to be my president. I believe we have possible vice-presidential candidates who are more qualified to be president that the presidential candidates themselves.

What president wants to have a more qualified and charismatic vice president than the president himself? This single aspect will certainly play a big part as to whom Mr. Obama decides to choose as a vice presidential running mate.

When all the candidates first began their bid for the White House, I was not a big Hillary Clinton fan. She changed my mind. Hillary is smart, knowledgeable, and has incredible energy. If she could make it through all the adversities she had to face during her time in the White House with Bill, I believe she could stand face to face with anybody in the world. She is an incredible talent, so she is out.

Ah, Bill Richardson. On the surface he might seem like a likely candidate but he has his own baggage. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people in this country that absolutely love Bill and Hillary Clinton. Whether it is real or perceived, Bill Richardson is known as the guy that turned against Hillary. He said he owed Bill Clinton something but he didn't owe Hillary anything. Wake up Bill, they are a couple. If you step on one, you step on the other. Though I might be wrong, I don't believe Obama wants to have someone known as a turncoat as his running mate. You're out.

Ok. I have speculated on who won't be a vice presidential candidate, so I guess it's time to say who will. He is the U.S. Senator from Virginia, Jim Webb. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1968. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two purple hearts. His extensive military experience compares very favorably to John McCain's background. He served in the U.S. Congress as counsel to the house committee on Veterans Affairs and has been the Secretary of the Navy. His background as a writer and reporter has seen him in both Lebanon and Afghanistan. He certainly has impressive credentials and since he is not as handsome as Obama, he sounds like the perfect candidate.

There are many fine candidates for the democratic vice president, but there can be only one. Ultimately, the decision as to who to pick will rest entirely on the shoulders of Mr. Obama. I would say the choice of a vice presidential running mate in a presidential election, has never been more important than it is for Obama in this one.
