The effects of energy drinks on children

Energy drinks have many effects on children; sadly, none of them are good.

nergy drinks are nothing more than an over-hyped media scam which aims to appeal to the younger generations. Despite the obvious 'energy advantages' there are many flaws in the drinks themselves which have the potential to damage a healthy child.

Energy Drinks are seemingly the world's answer to encouraging our younger and future generations of athletes to put down the television remote and get outside into the fresh air and take part in a regular and fun sporting event! However, I personally see energy drinks as nothing more than a modern-day deceptive downfall of society in the exact same way as chocolate-coated cereals were in the 1990's.

Quite simply, in the 1990's, society was encouraging the media to campaign to make cereal a popular breakfast cereal that not only appealed to health conscious adults, but children also. The idea in its own right was unique and had the potential to be a great step to combating the growing population of obesity and ill health, and provide a healthier and brighter future for millions of children across the world. It is no secret that cereal is a serious enhance of modern day life, being packed full of vitamins, minerals and calcium which enhances every aspect of life and health including digestion and bone growth. However, the way the media went about this is what caused the downfall, yet still deceived the parents into thinking that they were giving their children a healthy breakfast snack - by coating their cereals with chocolate.

Naturally, this was obviously an unhealthy choice. What they were giving up from giving their children marmalade or jam on toast in exchange for a 'healthy cereal' breakfast, they were giving them more sugar content and more high-fat content in their cereals simply by feeding them a batch of chocolate coated cereals. Would you consider that healthy? An immensely fatty and sugary batch of cereal often coated with full fat milk. Not only that, the hidden ingredients that were in it also: The hidden content of sugars, sweeteners, preservatives, caffeine and countless E numbers. The media was simply profiting from a deceptive scam, much like the encouragement of cigarette smoking with handy cinema and collectable cars from the 1980's with each packet of cigarettes you buy. Think about it, there is really not much difference.

You may be wondering what I am getting at with this, well quite simply, the 1980's used the media to sell
