Why do so many people believe in catastrophic global warming?

would be doing on the day of launch. To that end, meteorologists and scientists in the new science of climatology wear enlisted to predict weather further and further out. NASA and GISS scoured the world for weather data and this included collecting thousands of professional and even amateur records of temperature from anywhere people with the ability to record temperature were. From this, was developed the NASA/GISS global temperature chart ranging from the 1880s to today.

What research of this data revealed was that from 1880 or so, global temperatures were fairly static. The 1930s saw an enormous leap upward of about .4-degree Fahrenheit. After that, temperatures leveled out until about the 1970s, when there was another leap upward and then in the early 1990s, when the record showed yet another upward climb. So, since the 1930s, the mean global temperature had "rocketed" upward by about .9-degree Fahrenheit. This was all the new, radicalized environmental movement needed.

They were off and running (their mouths). Nevermind the fact that by 1998, it is generally agreed today, the increase had stopped and may in fact today be reversing (funny thing about averages...they have a high and a low...that is in fact, how one determines "average"). The environmentalists, with the help of an alarmist, sensationalistic media and politicians willing to sell their grandmother's kidneys for power latched onto this like drowning men will a life preserver.

This was the evidence they needed to launch a new, longer-lived (possibly permanent) harem-scarem campaign that would secure their positions and grant them limitless wealth and power. They hit the streets running-and screaming-the end of the world was nigh, that the rising global temperature (nevermind the fact that the greater part of this by far occurred well before human activity could possibly have played a role-shhhh!) were proof-PROOF!-that human activity was causing a runaway "greenhouse effect" of the sort Venus suffers under right here on our Mother, the Earth.

It's been downhill for the movement, ever since. They already had not just a beachhead but an empire American and European schools, K-post-doctoral, so insinuating this new "theory" of AGW into the general curriculum was a piece of cake. So too, an increasingly left-advocacy (for at its heart, the AGW movement is not only religious but also political, and left-political at that) media was happy to take up the AGW cause.

More reluctant, at least until they
