Laser Dolphin by Dingo Games can only grace itself with a rating of 3. That's not all bad...it's 3 out of 5. While the game seems very well intentioned, it's a rather difficult game to maneuver. The graphics are pretty good, the levels prove challenging, and the creativity is at it's peak.
As for the game play itself, the controls seem to difficult for a younger child to be able to pick up on. The first two levels went on pretty smoothly, once you reach level 3 the game takes on a mind of it's own. The dolphin swims faster with more obstacles to defend yourself against. It's too complex for a younger child to keep up with. I can only imagine how the game would have played out if I would have made it through all 70 levels.
Onto the graphics of Laser Dolphin, they are amazing. I was very impressed with the detail throughout the different phases. My only issue was that the graphics seem geared towards younger game players. But, the game itself is too challenging to be listed on that same level. It ultimately is fun to watch...as long as you're not the one playing it.
Although a creative and unique game, it reminds me a lot of Mario. Through the different stages, I remembered doing something along those same lines in the old classic Nintendo favorite. The only difference is, Laser Dolphin is a lot simpler to navigate through. Guess anything is possible to improve on in this day and age.
That leaves me with coming to the topic of innovation. That is a hard category to touch base on anymore. Every day, it seems that someone is out-doing something else...what seems to be innovative one day, could very easily be out-dated the next. So, when it comes time to decide on that aspect of this game, lets just say that it could be improved upon.
When all views of Laser Dolphin are put into one, you can be assured that it is an interesting game. It's full of many levels of play, very enjoyable to watch, and (although hard to control) it's easy to navigate through. The only downfall to this game is how drastically the speed of play increased in such a short time period. Maybe if they slow it down a little, it will be both interesting and challenging to many different age groups.
