Christmas is part of the Christian life. Nobody has ever told someone not to celebrate Hanukah, Yule, Omisoka, or Kwanzaa, so why should we Christians not be able to celebrate Christmas? The major religion in the United States of America is Christianity, so why are Americans always trying to discourage others from using the words "Merry Christmas?" Why do people want you to say "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings?"
You might say that you get offended because you don't celebrate Christmas. Well, what if you don't celebrate Omisoka and your Japanese friend tells you "Merry Omisoka?" Do you get offended by that? Most likely not. People are prejudiced against Christmas! I strongly believe that nowadays, people are treating Christians unfairly.
Why should Christians be discouraged from celebrating Christmas if others are allowed to celebrate their holidays? If your child is in a school choir, during Christmas time, they usually sing at least one song pertaining to Hanukah, yet you see no songs to do with Christmas in your child's repertoire.
In school, many children may feel restricted by the many rules about religion. If the freedom to express religion is not even allowed in schools, what will happen to everyone's individuality? I feel that taking away Christmas would not only affect Christians, but would also affect the entire US as a whole. Everyone would be in turmoil. If you could not even rely on laws anymore to establish what was allowed and what was not allowed, what would you rely on?
This is all about being free! The freedom of speech is highly valued, so why are people abusing it and saying that others are not allowed to say the words "Merry Christmas" in case of offending somebody? If you are always worried that you will offend someone by what you are saying, you will never be free enough with your words to be able to actually get to know people and become great friends with them.
Christians should not be discouraged from Christmas publicly, as other people that celebrate other religions aren't getting discouraged from celebrating their religions. Now, I ask you, are people against Christmas trees and getting Christmas presents? No, they aren't. Yet, if Christmas should not be allowed to be celebrated, getting presents and having a Christmas tree should not be allowed, either. The thing is, most people won't want to give up their presents. Of course everyone likes getting presents, but if people are as against Christmas as they say they are, why are they still giving and getting presents? Why are they still "celebrating" Christmas even if they are only celebrating that small part and not celebrating the part where you go to church and talk about Christ's birth?
