"You are what you think you can be." I thought as i sat down pondering on what my dream job interview would be. I had all information concerning the company and i was looking forward to becoming an asset of production. A closer mate walked past in hurry as if he had forgotten his soul outside. "They fall that run fast." I heartily commented.
I looked at the other contenders for the job. They all seemed worried. Uncertainity filled their hearts to the brim. I breathed a sigh of relieve on realizing i was the only one who seemed less agitated by the prospect of finding interviewers who were not cooperative. I had the required body language. My dressing was to the required standards of a high profile job like the one i had laid my bet on.
I looked myself on the mirror and agreed with my observation, "I could have hired the person i saw on the miror." I heartily rehearsed all principles associated with good management practices and felt satisfied i had qualified even before i had met the interview panel.
Many of the invited interviewees were rushing in and out of the loo. what were they fearing? if they had passed all the examinations, what made them so restless? it was their dreams of getting the job when they never believed in their capabilities. A lady approached me, "Do you think we will make it here? they have kept us waiting for long." I looked into her worried face and let down a storm, "these are not the standards required of this job. if you can not manage your free time, how are you going to manage your busy schedules?" she walked away and stood next to a window.
An interview panelist finally stood on the door. The lady interviewee who seemed frustrated by my uncalled for answer was looking into the distant horizons."We have done everything we could have done. we were unable to get a candidate out of you. This is the last lap. Those who will not qualify will pass by the account's desk to collect a pay check for their efforts in making it to this level. You all have qualified for the post. we are honoured to welcome you for lunch before we finally determine who will be who. Our company believes workers deliver best results when they are satisfied.I wish you success in your efforts to take the responsibilites that this position demands."
If it was a bet that was to determine the best candidate, the interview was going to fail competent ones. I however reasoned, if that is the only way out, it will only have one person who will see between the lines of a calculated trick.
I looked on every table, there was a telephone. We wondered less about the telephones and fell down to eating. it was while we were eating that the telephones rang in a single file . We expected the telephone to ring in sequence but they never did. Many interviewees were caught offguard - food in their mouth.
when my time came, i had learned the trick. I remembered it is not wise to recieve a call when you have anything in your mouth, not even a chewing gum! I did it and went on to eat comfortably. It was the way into my dream job.
